Young dragon Ignis, despite his fiery breath, is scared of the dark. When his firefly friend Pip loses a special glow-stone in the spooky Whispering Grotto, Ignis must find his bravery to help.
High in the smoldering peaks of Mount Cinder, lived a little dragon named Ignis.
Ignis had scales like sunset fire and could puff small, warm flames.
He loved soaring through the bright, morning skies, his wings catching the sun.
Ignis: “Oh, the sunshine feels grand! So vivid, so clear above the peaks!”
But as twilight shadows stretched long, Ignis quickly retreated into his cave.
Ignis: “The evening creepers are here again, making everything blurry!”
He'd pull his blanket tight around his snout, feeling tiny shivers.
Ignis: “What if a grumpy shadow-thing actually waits in the blackness?”
One dimming evening, his firefly friend, Pip, buzzed frantically inside.
Pip: “Ignis! My glow-stone! It's completely gone missing from my perch!”
Pip's gentle light pulsed with frantic worry, dimming slightly with alarm.
Ignis: “Your ancient, sparkling family gem? The one from the Old Quarry?”
Pip: “Yes! I think it rolled right into the Whispering Grotto's deepest parts!”
The Grotto was a legendarily deep, dark place Ignis always avoided entering.
Ignis: “The Grotto? But... it's truly spooky and so very, very dark in there!”
Pip: “Please, Ignis! I cannot possibly find it alone! It's too important!”
Ignis took a shaky breath, a wisp of smoke escaping his nostrils, determined.
Ignis: “Alright, Pip. For you, I will gather all my courage and try to be brave!”
They stepped out, the sparse moonlight barely reaching the grotto's jagged entrance.
Ignis puffed out his chest, trying to appear as mighty as possible, though his knees wobbled.
Pip: “Hold tight to my light, Ignis. The path inside is incredibly slippery.”
Inside, the air felt cold, damp, and strangely hollow, smelling of ancient stone and damp earth.
Ignis shivered, his large wings twitching nervously with each unfamiliar echo.
Ignis: “It feels like a big, dark yawn swallowed the whole world right here!”
Pip: “Don't fret, little dragon! My light will guide us through this gloom!”
Ignis: “But what if something jumps out from the shadows?”
Mysterious drips and echoes made Ignis jump at every unfamiliar sound.
Pip: “Only a rock shifting, brave Ignis! Look, a shimmer over there!”
A tiny glint of light reflected from a damp, mossy ledge deep within the grotto.
Ignis: “The glow-stone! I definitely see it, Pip! Huzzah for your light!”
Ignis stretched his long neck, carefully using his snout to nudge the small, radiant stone.
Ignis: “Got it! Safe and sound, my friend! It's all yours!”
Pip: “You did it, Ignis! My precious, wonderful glow-stone is safe!”
Pip zipped excitedly around the retrieved gem, his light pulsing joyfully with relief.
Ignis: “I feel a strange warmth, Pip. Not from fire, but from... bravery?”
Pip: “Exactly! The dark wasn't so terrible, after all, with you by my side.”
Ignis: “You're right! My bravery made the deepest darkness bright!”
They carefully retraced their steps, feeling triumphant as they left the grotto's gloom.
Back in his warm cave, the familiar torches seemed to burn even cozier and brighter.
Ignis snuggled onto his favorite warm rock, Pip nestled safely on his nose, glowing softly.
Ignis: “Goodnight, Pip. Tomorrow, maybe we'll find some 'less spooky' dark to explore together.”
